Swim Team Opens Season at Clearfield
The Tyrone Boys and Girls Varsity Swim Team’s opened their season on January 14th in a home meet against Clearfield. Although both teams lost, they started the season strong with many impressive individual swims.
Girls Score: 102 Clearfield – 64 Tyrone
Senior Madison Coleman led the Girl’s team with two individual first place finishes, in the 50 yard free (25.81) and the 100 yard free (58.39).
Junior Victoria Reese took first in the 100 yard Backstroke with a time of (1:14.53).
Senior Sarah E. Hoover took first in the 100 yard Breaststroke (1:17.29).
Senior Lucia Isenberg added some points with a third place finish in the 100 yard Backstroke (1:18.95), and fourth place in the 200 IM (3:03.55).
In the 500 Free, Juniors Sarah M. Hoover took 3rd place (6:55.97), Ellie Oakes took fourth place (7:21.60), and Grace Peterson took sixth (7:55.17).
The Girls relay team, consisting of Sarah E. Hoover, Madison Coleman, Victoria Reese, and Kiersten Friday, took first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.90), but were disqualified in the 200 Medley Relay.
“The girls did really well tonight, especially against Clearfield. I am excited to see how we all perform as the season progresses,” said Katie Buck.
Boys Score: 115 Clearfield – 29 Tyrone
The boys 200 relay team, consisting of Colin Yaudes, Hunter Gregg, Rylan Bailor, and Kamdon Bailor, took second place with a time of (1:53.75). They also competed in the 400 yard freestyle relay, finishing in second again with a time of (4:47.83).
Bellwood senior Hunter Gregg took 2nd place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of (2:14.52), and 3rd in the 100 yard freestyle with a (59.58).
In the 50 free, senior Colin Yaudes finished second (26.11), Senior Rylan Bailor finished third (26.93), and sophomore Kamdon Bailor finished fourth (28.76).
Yaudes also took third in the 100 breaststroke with a (1:15.67).
“Overall we had really good swims tonight. We just need to keep improving and building on our times,” said Gregg.
