Eagle Eye: What college do you attend?

Christyn Lloyd: Penn State University

EE: What are you majoring in?

CL: I’m an English Secondary Education major with a minor in Special Education

EE: Where are you from?

CL: Coalport, Pennsylvania

EE: Where did you go to high school?

CL: I went to Glendale High School

EE: How was your high school  different from ours?

CL: My high school was much smaller. We didn’t have as many activities or choices in regards to which classes we took. It was nice in some ways because you knew everybody in the school.

EE: What made you want to become a teacher?

CL: I didn’t know I wanted to be a teacher until college. My first semester I took a class, taught by a man who was a principal by day and an English teacher by night. He exposed me to a new way of learning English. I knew after that class that I had to work in English and luckily for me teaching was a good fit.

EE: How did you end up student teacher at Tyrone?

CL: When the students in the Education Department are being placed in schools we are asked which schools we would prefer to be at. I knew I wanted to stay close to home so I requested schools in the area, not knowing enough about them to hope for a specific one. Luckily I ended up being placed at Tyrone, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

EE: What is you favorite subject? Why?

CL: My favorite subject is English. I love reading and writing; I could sit and read all day long. Its wonderful to get caught up in a story that sparks your imagination, makes you think, or inspires you. I fell in love with writing later in life. Now I could sit and do it for hours, too. I feel like it’s a great way to express yourself and vent your feelings.

EE: What are some of your hobbies or interests?

CL: I love reading of course, but I also enjoy a lot of outdoor activities. I live close to Glendale Lake and the Clearfield Creek so I have plenty of opportunities to get out on my kayak, go swimming, take out my family’s pontoon, or take advantage of the hiking tails. I’m also a big Harry Potter nerd, over the summer I did a movie marathon and watched all of them.

EE: Who is your role model? Why?

CL: My biggest role model is my grandmother. Along with being a very kind person who really had her priorities straight, she was also an avid reader. She always read to me when I was small, and I attribute my love for it to her. I also want to give a shout out to William Shakespeare. I mean how could you not want to be a little bit like someone who was such a great writer.
