Student Group Takes Annual Trip to Washington DC

The members of YAN (Youth Action Network) took their annual trip to Washington DC on Friday, April 6.

They arrived at the school early and departed around 6:00 am.

Upon arrival in Washington, the group first visited the National Museum of American History, where they saw many artifacts, ranging from the boxing gloves of Muhammad Ali to the very first Apple computer.

“I thought that the National Museum of American History was really interesting,” said sophomore Ebonee Rice,”It showed prices of American History that we didn’t even know existed and we got to see all sides of each historical event, which was fascinating.”

The next destination was the National Museum of the American Indian. There, the group saw many pieces from ancient tribal Native American history.

Sophomore Mia Kosoglow also enjoyed her experience,”The museum was expanded upon an aspect of history that we, as students, don’t usually explore. Native Americans are set aside so we learn about the start of America, so I was able to learn more about that. The artifacts at the museum presented interesting connections to the Native Americans that I never realized existed.”

To end the day, they visited the Washington Monument and the World War Two Memorial before heading home.
