Kelsey Broadfield is the new career counselor for Tyrone Area High School.

Every two years Tyrone students say goodbye to their AmeriCorps college and career counselor and hello to a new member of the Tyrone High School guidance staff.

The new Career and College Counselor is Ms. Kelsey Broadfield. She comes to Tyrone from Bennington College in Vermont and is excited to help students with all their college and career plans.

“My job is to help all Tyrone students with their post-secondary plans. I am here just as much for students going into the workforce or military as I am for college-bound students,” said Broadfield.

Broadfield, who grew up in a small town in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York, graduated from college in 2020 with a degree in sociology and computer science.

She is able to help students answer any questions they may have relating to resume or cover letter workshops, researching different careers, giving overviews of financial aid, scholarships, and grants, and discussing different types of degrees or educational opportunities.

“I am very excited to become involved with the Tyrone community and am happy to help out in any way possible,” said Broadfield.

Broadfield will be holding a financial aid night for Tyrone students to introduce them to the FAFSA application and how to start applying for financial aid.

The event will take place on December 1st from 4 to 8 p.m. in the computer lab (room 108). Any seniors who would like to attend the event can visit Ms. Broadfield to sign up for a time slot. Students can ask questions and have help filling out the application.

Students and parents can get in touch with Ms. Broadfield by emailing her at [email protected] or [email protected] and you could call her at (814) 684-4240 ext. 3730.
