The TAHS will present the musical Grease on April 5th and April 6th; reserved tickets are $8 and general seats are $6.
The lead roles of Danny and Sandy are played by Ryan Cox and Alyssa Benton, both juniors at TAHS.
“Everyone fits their roles so well it’s kind of scary.” Brittany Hipp, music director, says about the cast and crew. All the cast members of Grease are excited about the roles they are playing.
Rehearsal is coming along really well. Everything is on track. Considering the six days of practice that were canceled due to weather, everything is ahead of schedule.
Practice is every school night from 6 to 9 and even on weekends. Putting on a musical is a lot of work and very time consuming. Everyone involved with the play is taking their roles seriously and giving 110%.
“I’m very proud of everyone,” Hipp says.
Hipp goes on to tell that she has directed two other musicals for Tyrone, South Pacific, Cinderella and Cabaret, but this is her favorite by far.
Although, the plot is the same as the movie there have been a few changes to the musical version. Some of the T-Birds names are different. There are new songs. The Pink Ladies and T-Birds have their own solos or duets. The musical provides more equal casting than the movie does.
For those who have never seen the movie, Grease is the story of highschoolers growing up in the 50s. Grease is about love and image. Sandy is a goody two shoes from Australia and Danny is the head T-Bird from Rydell High. When the two meet at the beach during the summer, they fall in love. But when the summer ends, the two think they will never see each other again. They are both wrong, Sandy and her parents have moved to America and she is now attending Danny’s school. When the two discover that they attend the same school, there is a lot of debate over whether they can still be together since it’s uncool for Danny to be in love with a goody goody like Sandy. And Sandy doesn’t want her good image ruined. However the two, against all odds, manage to stay together in the end.
Everyone is excited about the musical. The set is almost finished and looking great. The pit, orchestra, has added the right tone tying the musical together. Everyone has good energy so things are getting done on time and adding fun into the mix. Those going to the show will enjoy it.
