Spend ‘A Night On Broadway’ with TAHS Drama Club on April 8-9

Tyrone’s Drama Club is putting on a unique production this spring made up of the best numbers from many popular Broadway musicals

On April 8th and 9th, the Drama Club at Tyrone Area will host a different kind of high school musical.

A Night on Broadway will feature musical numbers from classic shows like Grease, West Side Story, Annie Get Your Gun, Les Miserables, Hairspray and many more. The student performers had a lot of influence in what shows and numbers were featured based on their tryouts. Students could tryout for solos or duets with any Broadway song of their choice. All those who tried out will participate in the large ensemble numbers that were selected by Mrs. Harris.

“I’ve never done anything like this before and probably won’t do it again for a long time,” remarked the play’s director Laura Harris, “This is a motivated group of kids that are making this show happen. They had a lot of input and influence when planning the show and I’m excited for our community to see our finished product.”

Normally, musicals are put on every other year at Tyrone. Last year’s show Guys and Dolls appeared to be the last show for the 2015-16 graduating class. However, pressure from the student body and a willingness to compromise has led to A Night On Broadway, much to the elation of more than a few drama club members.

“It was a relief. Last year I had to hold on to every moment like it was the last time I would be doing a large performance on stage”, said Sean McGovern, a senior member of the drama club, “When I found out that we’d be doing another musical of sorts was like Christmas. One last chance to do what I’ve done so many times on stage,” said McGovern, who has done three previous shows at TAHS.

The art department is also highly involved with making A Night on Broadway come together. Mr. Eric Feather’s morning art classes have been busy painting and building set pieces.

“Its both a fun and challenging process,” said Feather, “My students and I are pressed to meet the deadline for show night. But it’s a rewarding experience for my students to showcase their artistic ability and help out the drama club at the same time.”

Junior Haley Butina has several solos and duets throughout the show and is appreciative of the arts program here at TAHS. “The musical is such a fun part of the year. I love being able to hang out with my friends and also do something I love to do in the process. I’m so thankful that Tyrone gives opportunities like this to its students, it’s truly a life changing experience.”

Both performances will begin at 7:00 pm.  Tickets will be on sale in the High School Main Office. They are $8 for reserved seats and $6 for general admission.
