Soellner and Politza make 2015 Altoona Mirror All-Star Team

The 32nd annual Altoona Mirror Basketball All-Star Team was announced last week and two Tyrone players were named to the team.

Senior Nathaniel “Pooky” Soellner was elected to the second team and was seventh overall in voting.  Soellner averaged 15 points a game this year and also played for Blair County in the Altoona Mirror Basketball Classic.

Junior Anthony Politza was voted to the third team after being fifteenth overall in voting.  Politza averaged 12 points per game for the Golden Eagles.

“I worked a lot over the summer on my shooting,” said Soellner. “It really paid off.”

“I wasn’t expecting it,” said Politza, “but I’m glad that Pooky and I got recognition for all the hard work we put in together even as a team.”

The all-star team is chosen by area coaches, Mirror sports staff and correspondents.

The 2015 player of the year for the second year in a row is Brandon Martinazzi from Bishop Carroll.  Bellwood’s Nathan Davis was second in MVP voting.

Past Tyrone players of the year were Richard Crabtree (2012), Steve Catich (2008), Tyler Mertiff (2003), and Eric Castorina (2000).
