Six Tyrone Wrestlers Medal at Ultimate Warrior Tournament

The Tyrone Golden Eagles had a successful showing at the 2022 Ultimate Warrior Wrestling Tournament at West Branch High School. Tyrone had six wrestlers medal and the team placed 10th of 36 teams.

The Ultimate Warrior tournament has become one of the top tournaments in the state and brings teams from all across the region and as far away as suburban Philadelphia.

“We did about as well as I could have expected us to do. They wrestled really hard and really tough. This is one of the best competitions in the state, and our guys really stepped up to the plate and finished strong,” said Tyrone coach Quentin Wright.

Senior Ashton Sipes won four and only lost once at the Ultimate Warrior to earn himself a third-place plaque.

Along with Sipes, Junior Korry Walls went 4-1, taking third in an exciting overtime match against Sombronski of United.  Sipes only loss at the tournament came to a returning state champion.

Sophomore Andrew Weaver made his first appearance at the Ultimate Warrior and scrapped his way to a fifth-place pin over Gentile of Reynolds High School.

Junior Reese Wood went 5-3, fighting back from an early-round loss to earn a sixth-place medal at 145.

Freshman Logan Rumberger also earned a sixth-place medal at 113.

Sophomore Braden Ewing lost a close match against PO’s Chase Klinger but managed to go 5-2 overall to earn a seventh-place medal.

Tyrone competes in the first round of the District 6 Class 2A Duals on Saturday against Southern Huntingdon at 6 p.m. at Huntingdon. The winner faces Huntingdon immediately after the first match.

“We’re really looking forward to District Duals,” Wright told the Altoona Mirror. “I told the guys we’re going to rest up (Sunday), get back in Monday, get our weight down and really focus on that. There’s a really good chance we could go far.”
