Six students from the Tyrone chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) placed in the top three at the regional competition and advanced to the Pennsylvania State FBLA conference in Hershey from April 10th through 13th.
The six students were Jake Rice, Logan Harpster, Drew Escala, Carly Nowlin, Paige Carper, and Bryanna Britten.
At regionals, the students competed in competitive tests on various subjects against students from Bald Eagle, Bellefonte, Elk County Catholic High School, Juniata Valley, Mifflin County, Mount Union, State College, and Sugar Valley Rural Charter School.
Students who place top ten in states move on to the national competition in Orlando, Florida. Last year Tyrone had two compete in nationals.
Unfortunately, no Tyrone students will move on to nationals this year, but sophomore Carly Nowlin came just short of the top 10 places needed to go to nationals in Orlando.
According to their website, FBLA is a national student organization that provides leadership development programs to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship.
Millions of students have learned through active membership in FBLA about the business world and what is expected of them in the workplace.
“Congratulations to these students for representing Tyrone at the state level,” adviser Derrick Soellner said. “Hopefully they will all be back next year.”
