Lady Eagles Slay Dragons; Shaw Shoots Her Way Into 1000 Point Club
Behind a team high 22 points from senior Sydney Shaw the Lady Eagles secured their eighth win of the season by defeating the Central Dragons 55-39.
Shaw led all scorers once again and it could not have come on a better night because only a few minutes into the game the senior guard scored Tyrone’s first five points, securing her 1000th career point.
Tyrone also received strong performances from freshman Jaida Parker with 14 points, freshman Stephanie Ramsey, and sophomore Shannon Shaw, who both added 6 points each.
“It felt amazing to be surrounded by a gym full of Tyrone fans, all supporting me and what I accomplished,” said Sydney Shaw
Led by Shaw, Tyrone opened up the first quarter on fire. Shaw scored the team’s first 5 points getting her to a thousand. The first quarter came to a close with Tyrone holding a 13-6 lead.
Tyrone’s offense built on the momentum they built in the first quarter as they kept hitting shots putting them farther ahead. Their red hot offense put up 15 more points while their defense held Central’s offense to only 8 points.
The Lady Eagles went into the locker room leading 28-14.
Tyrone’s offense put up the same numbers in the third quarter adding another 15 points while suffocating the struggling Dragon offense keeping them in single digits for the third straight quarter. Tyrone led Central 43-23 after three quarters.
Central’s offense finally came to life in the final quarter as they outscored The Lady Eagles 16-12 but their inability to score in the first three quarters allowed Tyrone to hold on for the victory.
With the victory Tyrone’s record improves to 8-3 on the season with a 6-1 record in the Mountain League. Tyrone looks to gather another Mountain League victory as they take on Bellefonte at home.
