Tyrone senior Elexis Hess received the 2024 Career and Readiness Scholarship sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Scholarship Fund.

The $500 scholarship was offered to Tyrone seniors. Hess will be recognized at the 2024-2025 Senior Excellence Night.

To receive this scholarship, applicants had to write a one-page reflection on what they learned from the 2024 Tyrone Career Fair. The career fair brought local entrepreneurs to discuss their journeys and give students tips for future career decision-making.

The scholarship judge committee reviewed and scored the essays based on five categories: content, organization, mechanics, voice, and personal reflection.

“I’m honored and grateful to have been chosen to receive this award. I am excited for my future education endeavors with the support of this scholarship,” Hess said.

Hess plans to attend South Hills School of Business and Technology in the fall to study diagnostic medical sonography.

“This scholarship will help me greatly with the cost of books, fees, and supplies,” said Hess. This scholarship will help alleviate some of the costs associated with her future education and further her career aspirations to become a sonographer.

Guidance office Administrative Assistant Lynda Hoover was pleased to hear that Hess was awarded the scholarship.

“We were so happy to hear that Lexi won the scholarship. She was very motivated and took the initiative to find out more details about the essay. She reached out to me to obtain the paperwork for it, and she was the very first person to turn in her completed application,” Hoover said.
