Senior Band Spotlight: Percussionist Tyler Vanish
Since moving to Tyrone in the summer before his junior year, senior Tyler Vanish has been a hardworking and dedicated member of the Tyrone Area High School Marching Band.
For the past two seasons, Vanish has played the bass drum, snare drum, and tenor drum for TAHS, and according to Band Director David Hock, Tyler brought a lot to the band in that short time.
“Tyler brought a lot of enthusiasm and dedication to the band. He has worked hard and grown as a musician since he came to Tyrone,” Hock said.
Vanish first got interested in music back in fifth grade at his previous school, Moshannon Valley Middle and High School in Houtzdale.
In high school Vanish moved to Tyrone with his sister Hailey and mom, Amanda Burega, who is currently a business education teacher at Tyrone High School.
Vanish quickly became a valuable member of the Tyrone Area Marching Band.
Junior Clifford Roberts knows that when Vanish graduates the band will lose one of the most dedicated members.
“The band will be losing a valued member who was always enthusiastic and hard working,” Roberts said.“Tyler and I always had a great time at the football games just getting to hangout and talk while having fun playing music.”
Junior Jacob Greene also made many memories with Vanish over the past two years. Greene will miss hanging out with Vanish during band practices in the summer and after school.
In high school Vanish has also been involved in Mock Trial and Academic Decathlon. He is an avid bowler in his spare time.
According to Vanish, one of his proudest moments in high school was related to music.
“My biggest accomplishment would be when I was inducted into the Tri-M Music Association at Moshannon Valley,” said Vanish.
In the fall Vanish will attend Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh and major in Cyber Forensics.
This will be Vanish’s last year in band, as he plans to focus on his academics in college, but he will always treasure the good friends and love for making music that the band has given to him.
“Band was the best eight years of my life and moving to Tyrone was the best decision my mom made for my education,” said Vanish.
