The Lady Eagles Volleyball team won in a 3-1 match against the Lady Lions of Chestnut Ridge last Thursday at home.
In the second set, Tyrone senior Maddy Rockwell also broke the school assist record of 2,022 assists. The Eagle Eye will run a feature story on Rockwell’s record-setting accomplishment later this week.
After their recent 0-3 loss this past Tuesday to the Philipsburg Mounties, they were hungry for another win. Chestnut Ridge has had a rough start to the season going 2-3, so the Lady Eagles were very confident going into Thursday’s game.
There were many position changes for this game, but despite that, the Eagles still came out on top. One change in this game was Sophomore Abby Anthony stepping into the role of Libero and junior Kylee Nelson moving into outside.
“At first stepping into this role was really nerve-wracking because I didn’t want to let my team down,” Anthony said, “I knew I had big shoes to fill, but I was glad I was given this opportunity.”
Their game plan going into this match was to expose the Lady Lion’s poor tip coverage and to be very dominant in their serve and pass game… which is exactly what they did.
It was a close first set with the Eagles winning 25-22, the Lion’s scrappy defense was definitely an adjustment, but no problem for the Lady Eagles.
The next set was a struggle. The Eagles had trouble siding out on offense, losing 25-16.
The Eagles, ready for revenge, snatched the next set from Chestnut Ridge winning 25-22.
Then, on a roll, the Lady Eagles busted out a win for the fourth set and the match, winning 25-18. The Eagles outsides for the game, Sophomore Rylan Crowell, and Junior Kylee Nelson helped lead the team with their thoughtful ball placement and strong energy on the court.
The Lady Eagles move their record to 4-3-1.
