“Respect All, Fear None”- Girls Basketball team prepares for the season
The 2015 Mountain League Championship vs. Penns Valley
The Lady Eagles girls basketball team has big hopes and dreams for this upcoming 2015-2016 season.
The girls have continued to play and practice all through the off-season. This past summer they participated in a high school/alumni league at the Hollidaysburg YMCA against an array of talents. The girls are currently competing in a league at the Summit.
This past weekend the girls had a Mountain League match-up against cross-county rival Central, and were able to easily pull out the 47-26 win.
“We are all working harder than ever, not only to improve individually, but as a team as well. We can already see improvements, but we know we still have a lot of work to do,” said senior Finnley Christine.
The girls new sense of purpose is reflected in their new team motto – “respect all, fear none.”
“We will never underestimate any team we play, but will have confidence that any game is ours to win,” said junior Kasey Engle.
With last years season ending with a record of 18-5, the Lady Eagles are looking to make an even bigger run this year. With everyone returning but last years starting post Lindsey Kemp, there should be no troubles with getting the ball rolling.
Looking into the season, not many teams should be a threat to the Lady Eagles. A lot of teams lost key players last season, but the Lady Eagles still have their solid starting line-up and contain “talent deeper than our starters” according to Junior Alexis Cannistraci.
With no hesitation in her voice, Engle believes, “I see us playing in the District Championship this year. This could very well be our best chance to win the title.”
Before reaching their ultimate goal of a district title, the girls will need to win the Mountain League first. After defeating Penn’s Valley three times last season in a dog fight of a championship game, Tyrone has won the Mountain League conference the past two seasons. The girls are looking for a three-peat.
“This would be three Mountain League titles for us in four years,” said senior Marissa Sprankle.
The team knows that championships are won in the off season and they are banking on having their hard work and dedication pay off this winter.
