TAHS Prom 2021: What You Need to Know
With such a crazy 2020-2021 school year, has been there has been a lot of uncertainty about annual school events such as prom and graduation. Will they happen? If so, how? When? With what restrictions?
While it won’t look exactly like proms of the past, barring any major increase in infection rates in the school and/or county, TAHS will have their 2021 junior-senior prom.
A few things have changed this year, including the date and the venue.
Prom 2021 will be held on June 5, outdoors at Fort Roberdeau with a dance floor under a tent.
The date was chosen to allow more time for the effect of vaccinations to positively impact infection rates in the area.
The location was chosen to make the event safer, as CDC guidelines have recommended against large indoor gatherings. Outdoor gatherings are believed to be much less likely to spread the virus.
As in years past, all attendees are permitted to invite a guest. Guests can be from TAHS in grades 9-12 or another school district. Any guests not attending high school must be under 21 years of age. Guests that are not TAHS students must provide a copy of a valid form of identification with the guest’s picture.
According to a survey sent to TAHS juniors and seniors that has 165 responses, 120 students said that they would attend the prom and 29 said maybe. This number did not include the student’s dates but it gave a good idea of how many students would be in attendance.
As has been a tradition at TAHS, there also will be a Grand March at Fort Roberdeau at 6:45 (weather permitting).
Students must also follow the CDC and PA Department of Health guidelines at the time of prom.
To purchase tickets a registration form must be completed and turned in with the student’s $40 (per person) fee. This form will be available outside of Miss. Markel’s (229) or Miss. McLaren’s room (110) starting April 19th. They will be due between May 3rd and May 7th.
“I am glad that the district is allowing us to hold a prom this year even if it looks a little different than usual,” says Prom Advisor Mis. McLarren.
