POPS Extension Says Goodbye to Seniors, Hello to New Members
As the school year approaches an end, POPS Extension is busy saying goodbye to some long time members and hello to some new faces.
“POPS is definitely a place to make great memories,” said senior Zac Slate, “My favorite memory was my 9th grade year. We went on a competition to Bush Garden and it was a blast.”
This years class of seniors is large and includes sopranos Sarah Isenberg, Shania Kennedy, Erika Voyzey, and Anslee Walk, tenor Zac Slate, altos Brooke Cox, Gina Gavazzi, Lauren Swayne, and Marlena Wagner, and basses Coy Focht, Will Lash, Sean McGovern, Anthony Politza, and Collin Rhoades.
This group of seniors were the first class to be with Mrs. Harris from the very start in 5th grade.
“Saying good-bye to these guys is going to be one of the hardest for me. I’ve seen these guys grow up and I’ll miss them all,” said POPS Director Laura Harris.
The seniors all agree, POPS is one of the things they will miss most about high school.
“Mrs. Harris always taught us to be confident in yourself and just have fun with whatever you are doing,” said Sarah Isenberg.
“I chose to be in POPS because I love to sing and love the people. I’ve been doing it since I could first remember. Plus, how could you not love Mrs. Harris?” said Marlena Wagner.
“POPS is nothing but the best,” said senior Sean McGovern, “I got to spend time with a bunch of my best friends and had the opportunity to meet new ones. I know there are people who are scared to try out, but I’ll just say, go for it. Even if you don’t make it, it won’t affect your life in anyway. Plus the majority of student have more than one chance to try out.”
“I didn’t make it my freshman year and I was a little upset,” said sophomore Jamal Hicks, “but I kind of used that as motivation for the next time I tried out. Let me tell you, it was a blast! The friends you make, the different personalities, and there is always something new about it.”
Next year looks to be another good season for POPS Extension with many returning members and some talented new voices. The 2016-2017 POPS crew is:

As a former school district employee I would like to say that I always enjoyed the awesome talent that was brought out as a result of this great group of singers. Mrs Harris has such love and adoration for each and every student that has passed through this group. She should wear a crown because she sure is royalty. The talent that has evolved from this group is and always will be an asset to anyone who has had the privilege to say that they were a member of Tyrone Area School District “Pop’s”. Keep up the good work Eileen?
