POPS Extension takes 1st place at Williamsburg Virginia choral competition

The students competed and then spent the day enjoying Busch Gardens

The group reaches for the trophy after an exciting day.

The TAHS POPS Extension show choir took first place with a rating of “excellent” at the 2014  “Singing in the Park” competition in Busch Gardens, Virginia on April 11, 2014.

POPS competed with high school show choirs, concert choirs, and chamber choirs from all over the east coast. They performed two songs: Some Nights by Fun. and Bella’s Finale from Pitch Perfect.

“The group came out of the competition knowing we did the best we could,” said junior Conner Stroud, “It was a really cool feeling.”

TAHS Choir Director Laura Harris says that the group deserved their score.

“Of course its hard to understand some of the judging,” said Harris, “but we are proud of how we did.”

The scores have not been made available yet, the group only knows that they added up to a score of “Excellent.”

After the competition, the group had an opportunity to relax at the hotel. Many members went mini-golfing, and others chose to stay in their rooms or visit the hotel’s hot tub.

The students spent the next day at Busch Gardens theme park.

“I had a lot of fun with my friend,” said senior Bailey Christine, “it was nice to hang out and relax after working so hard at Snappy’s.”

The First Place trophy was displayed in the main office but is now in the Choral Department, next to the trophy from the previous year.

“The trip was a lot of fun and it all went smoothly,” said Harris, “This group of students is incredible.”
