Phone Wars: iPhone vs. Android
As a teenager, one of the biggest decisions is picking what phone you want. There are many brands to chose from and mostly all of them have special features about them that other phones don’t.
The market is dominated by two platforms, iPhone and Android. So how do you chose between the two?
Both offer a variety of features that the other doesn’t.
For example, iPhone’s hardware is only controlled by Apple, which makes it more reliable and less likely to freeze up because there is only one brand of phone on this hardware.
Android releases its hardware to Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, and more. This sometimes causes Android phones to be more likely to freeze up and have problems. On the other hand, there are a greater variety of phones to chose from that have different features and different styles that iPhone doesn’t offer.
The iPhone also has iMessage, which allows people to know if the message was delivered and if the person has read that text. But, if you have an Android you’re out of luck.
Androids have a larger variety of phones than the iPhone does. This may make the decision that much harder, but also that much more fun.
But, with the release of the two new iPhones, it makes it that march harder on Android creators to surpass them. With new features such as wireless charging, face ID, upgraded camera, and a full screen phone, it will be much harder for Android to compete with Apple.
Another factor that might influence Tyrone students living in rural areas is that iPhones allows messages to be sent over WiFi instead of having to rely on cellular service, which is often spotty in rural areas.
“For me, it wasn’t that difficult of a decision between the iPhone and the Android phones because I don’t have good service at my house. So, I needed the iPhone, which has iMessage, to communicate over WiFi because Androids don’t have that feature,” said senior Emily Lehman.
The choice between these brands of phones could also be based on celebrity liking. If a teenager sees their idol, whether a singer or a dancer with the new iPhone 8, they could potentially base their decision, of choosing a phone, off of who has what.

I like the idea of this article. However, there are some things I’d like to point out about your argument that I would like to address.
1) Your use of “hardware” is incorrect. Android is the name of the software that runs your device, not the physical items within the device to give it the specifications of the phone, which, may I add, Android phones accelerate in. They have much better hardware in their devices than Apple does. For example, the iPhone 6’s specifications show 1gb of RAM (Random Access Memory), while the Galaxy S6, which released in the same year, has 3gb of RAM. Not only this, but the Galaxy S6 also came with an octa-core processor known as an Exynos 7420. This is a similar chip to the very well known processor, the Snapdragon 810, the industry standard in computing power.
2) Also, you were correct about the “no iMessage” thing, but it has been proven by users of a Galaxy S7 and up, that you are able to send SMS via Wi-Fi connection. There is a setting within the device to allow you to do so. This still doesn’t have some of the features that iMessage does, but the option is there.
3) All of the features you have listed, Android has in one of the very many variety of phones in their lineup. Not to mention, that Android phones have also had these features for quite a few years. Take for example, the TouchID that Apple holds so close. The fingerprint scanner was first introduced to an Android operated device in 2011, with the Motorola Atrix being the first device to have a fingerprint scanner. It wasn’t until two years later, that Apple had acquired their “TouchID”
This of course is just an opinion, and I also am very particular when it comes to technology, but Android seems to be a clear winner here. There isn’t anything that convinces me to change to an Apple device, as they don’t really offer anything that Android does not offer in some way, shape, or form.

I Agree, iPhones are lower in quality wise, but higher in price, the new iPhone X Could be made with at least 500$ cash. Apple is just selling it for 1000$ so they can boost profits. I honestly might get the X because of some of the features, but that is because they interest me. it is bringing a new feature called Face ID, I feel it is a horrible thing to do because it could be hard to Get into, but it also could be very easy to get into with just a video of the person. But that is unlikely to work, but who knows. it could work, Apple claims that won’t work. if it does, then people that have Face ID set to their bank account, people could get into it that way

Yeah this overall seemed very one sided in terms of Apple

Hey Jaron,
I like the premise of your argument BUT its flawed.
NUMBER 1) Apples taste wayyyyyyyy better than androids
NUMBER 2) Androids are robots not cyborgs or phones
NUMBER 3) Android cameras suck
NUBMER 4) Adroids are people with skin
thank you for your time, peace out.
