Paige Umholtz: Third Place

Q & A with third place winner Paige Umholtz

EE: Why did you enter the short story contest?

PU: I really loved the characters in the story and just overall thought it was a lot of fun. I’m really proud of it.

EE: What inspired the story?

PU: Well, I got tired of reading sad stories, so I wanted to write something fun and upbeat. I started thinking about how I could write about old ladies, and the whole thing came together.

EE: How long did it take to write?

PU: 4-5 days approximately

EE: What do you like about it?

PU: I think the antics that the characters get themselves into were really fun, plus the relationship between Winifred and Milfred is so inspiring.

EE: Which other stories were your favorite? Why?

PU: My Bible in the Nightstand was really good and well written.

EE: Are you surprised that you won?

PU: A little bit yes. There were a  lot of awesome stories. I’m honored that people like my story.

EE: What are you going to spend your Sheetz money on?

PU: A breakfast sandwich and coffee.
