A Tyrone tradition was renewed on Sunday evening when the Golden Eagle All-Sport Banquet returned as a stand-alone event for the first time in 17 years.
Over $10,000 in scholarships were presented at the event, which was co-sponsored by the Tyrone Golden Eagle Monogram Club and the TASD Athletic Department.
Athletic Director Luke Rhoades thought the evening was a big success and hopes to continue it next year with the support of the Monogram Club.
“Having legendary athletic department members like Linda and Larry Strong, and Pete Dutrow in attendance was very special,” Rhoades said. “In addition, Mrs. Sandy Miller presenting the Tom Miller Scholarship in memory of her husband to their grandson, Ashton Walk, was a very special moment.”
Beth Cannistraci, a Tyrone Monogram Club representative who is also a TAHS teacher, former standout athlete, coach, and parent of a Tyrone athlete, was excited to hear that Rhoades and the Monogram Club had the vision to bring back the all-sports banquet.
“When I was in school, that night was one of the most memorable nights for all athletes. I can still remember feeling butterflies as the award winners were announced,” Cannistraci said.
All senior athletes were invited for a meal, coach’s recognition of senior athletes, and the presentation of senior athletic awards.
The Monagram Club, which co-sponsored the event, was founded in 1988 by Harry Sickler to support all TAHS student-athletes, coaches, and teams. In the past, the Monogram Club has financially supported Tyrone sports teams, honored state champions, started a Tyrone Honor Group, and awarded scholarships to athletes.
All former Tyrone varsity athletes, coaches, trainers, or managers who completed at least one season are eligible for membership in the Monogram Club. To join, download and complete the membership form and return it with payment to the Monogram Club at the address on the application:
