The Lady Eagles extended their winning streak to nine with a 9-0 shutout over the visiting Central Lady Dragons.
The girls were close to making it 10 in a row, as the Central game was followed by what they hoped would be the conclusion of a game against West Branch that was suspended due to weather earlier in the season. In that game, the Lady Eagles were up 6-5 in the top of the fifth inning when a thunderstorm forced the suspension of the game for a second time.
Head Coach Hilary Soellner has been overjoyed with the play of her team since starting the season a disappointing 0-5.
“We are continuing to play very good softball. We’re keeping the pressure on our opponents. We are staying confident in the mindset at the plate and remembering that we’re never satisfied keeps us pushing hard on our opponents. I couldn’t be prouder of how they’re playing,” Soellner said.
Tyrone was led by junior Amariah Sprankle and freshman Kaitlyn Rockwell.
Sprankle had three hits and three RBIs. Rockwell also had three hits while striking out 14 and giving up no runs.
Sage Harris drove in two runs, and Samantha Shaw added two hits for the Lady Eagles.
In the first inning, Kaitlyn Rockwell got the scoring started with an RBI double, driving in sophomore Lucy Fogelman.
The third inning brought four runs. Starting with a single from senior Sam Shaw, a walk from Rockwell, a walk from senior Layna Dibert, a single from junior Amariah Sprankle scoring two, and a single from freshman Sage Harris scoring two.
The Lady Eagles kept chipping away from there. The bottom of the fourth inning started with a single from junior Grace Naylor, a single from Shaw, and a single from Rockwell, scoring one.
Another run was scored in the bottom of the fifth inning, then two in the bottom of the sixth inning.
