Mock Trial A Team Falls in Close Trial to Central Cambria

The Tyrone Mock Trial A Team lost a close trial against Central Cambria on Wednesday, January 22nd at the Cambria County Courthouse.

Tyrone argued for the plaintiff in the case of Addison Babbage v. Ruffed Grouse High School, LLC.

The case was tried in front of nine jurors and unfortunately for Tyrone, the jury ruled in favor of Central Cambria.

This was a very good trial for both teams and the scores were very close. Tyrone won on total points, earning 811 total points to Central Cambria’s 798.  However, they lost the trial on ballot verdicts 5-4.

Tyrone sophomore Mario Grugan was awarded the best attorney award.

“I thought we had this trial won but was happy to be named the best attorney. It’s always fun,” said Grugan.

Freshman Emily Dale won the best witness award.

“I was upset that we lost but proud of how well out team performed,” said Dale.

The majority of the team this year is made up of underclassmen. With only four returning members from last year’s team, they performed extremely well considering this was their first trial.

“I was proud of everyone for their performance tonight. With only one senior and several freshmen on the team, the future is looking bright,” said adviser Todd Cammarata.

Trials like these are a great learning experience not only for the underclassmen but also for the witnesses for the defense who haven’t competed yet.

The second half of the team will be arguing for the defense against Central at the Blair County Courthouse on February 11th at 6:00 p.m. The trials are free and open to the public.
