The Golden Eagles needed a bounce-back Monday night after losing to the undefeated Johnstown Trojans on Friday. They did just that, coming out on fire going up 45-16 at the break and cruising to a 63-46 win against the Williamsport Millionaires.
They were led with a very balanced attack from Kendall Lehner with 15 points who also had a double-double with 10 rebounds. Sam Crilly scored 13 points and 5 steals and Drew Escala chipped in 10 more.
“Our flow of offense by moving around created energy to make stops and force turnovers on defense,” said senior Kendall Lehner.
The biggest key to victory was the Golden Eagles’ defense. This has grown tremendously in the last three games giving up an average of only 48 points per game. Keeping no more than two scorers in double digits is a huge leap to the Golden Eagles’ success.
“We played very hard and had relentless defense but we need to keep up the defensive intensity,” said sophomore Carter Gwinn.
Tyrone also played unselfish basketball and if they continue that along with relentless defense, they will be a tough opponent for any team heading into the playoffs as the 3 seed.
The Eagles were able to keep the Millionaires from getting in the game at any point.
The Golden Eagles have a busy week playing Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. All three are big games for standings. They hope to keep making strides going into the postseason to bring home their goal of a District Championship.
Tyrone’s record increases to 14-4 while Williamsport falls to 5-11.
Tyrone’s next game will be Wednesday versus Bald Eagle at home at 7:30 pm.
