The girl’s tennis team has reached the middle of their season and is now playing the teams on their schedule again. So far they have a record of 3-3 with losses to Central both times (0-5) (0-5) and Hollidaysburg (0-5), and wins to Clearfield both times (5-0) (5-0) and Huntington (5-0).
Head Coach Randy Irvin thinks that the season is going well up to this point and he sees a lot of improvement from each player on the team.
“I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. I think the ladies will continue to improve and I think we will do really well at districts,” Irvin said.
Tyrone junior Nicole Ramsey is currently the team’s number-one singles player.
“Being number one has been something I’ve been working towards all summer and it’s pretty cool to be able to play the top players from other teams. It has been a little bit of a rocky road, but I did know coming into this it wasn’t going to be easy and it’s all been a learning experience,” Ramsey said.
Tyrone senior Emma Witkamp is currently the team’s number-two singles player.
“I’m very honored and proud to be the number two player. I enjoy representing the team, and although I take plenty of losses, the wins are incredibly rewarding,” Witkamp said
Bellwood-Antis sophomore Ezri Bumgarner, in just her second year of competitive tennis, is currently the number-three singles player.
“Being the number-three player is fun. The pressure is there to do good but it’s not as pressuring being number one or two,” Bumgarner said.
Tyrone sophomore Cassidy Fleck and Bellwood-Antis sophomore Jocelyn Diehl are currently the number-one doubles team, and Tyrone junior Emily Christofer and Tyrone sophomore Grace Zimmerman are currently the number-two doubles team.
The girls’ next match is away against Hollidaysburg on September 12 at 4:00.
