Members meet state officer Grant Carlton during FFA week
The meeting was part of National FFA Week
On Tuesday February 24th, Tyrone Area FFA members traveled to Huntingdon HOSS’s for “Meet Your State FFA Officer Night” as part of the National FFA Week celebrations.
“I had such an amazing time meeting the [FFA] members,” said Grant Carlton, PA State FFA Chaplin, “it reminded me of the amazing, intelligent, and fun members in FFA. Fun night all around!” Carlton also brought his mother Marilyn and the Tyrone FFA members enjoyed speaking with her about the Tyrone Area Agricultural Education Program, sharing jokes and stories.
Members look forward to this night every year because they get to have a one-on-one meeting with the attending State Officer.
“It is a great opportunity for members because we get to learn more about the officer and more about the FFA,” said junior Tyrone FFA member Katrina Hagenbuch.
Various guests also attend the night to give information to the members and advisors present.
Bruce Horning is a member of the USDA Farm Loan Service Agency and explained how the company works with students by providing loan opportunities for the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. There are different loans available for students to purchase animals or equipment.
“I cannot wait to get more information on these loans. This is something that will be very helpful in my life and starting my career,” said Senior FFA member Shaye Loose.
Dr. John Ewing from The Pennsylvania State University gave information need for Ag teachers and how one can become a teacher. Without Ag teachers, students and members would be without the opportunities available.
National FFA Week
Because last week was National FFA Week, the Tyrone Area FFA Chapter also had other events planned during this week.
There was FFA apparel day where all Ag Ed students wore FFA T-shirts, flannel day, and bowling night.
“Bowling is a great way for students to get to know each other and have fun,” said sophomore FFA member Charles Beard.
On Thursday the members sponsored a snack and refreshment bar for all of the school’s staff, teachers, and alumni.
Friday was Donut Day for all Agricultural Education students.
National FFA Week took place February 21-28. This year’s theme was “Go All Out!” and embraces more than 80 years of FFA traditions while looking forward to the organization’s future. More than half a million members will participate in National FFA Week activities at local, state and national levels. These members have a passion for agriculture.
Designated as National FFA Week in 1947, the week of George Washington’s birthday is FFA Week, and runs from Saturday to Saturday. FFA Week gives FFA members an opportunity to educate the public about agriculture.
Today’s FFA members are the innovators and leaders of tomorrow. Through agricultural and hands-on learning, they are preparing for more than 300 career opportunities in the food, fiber and natural resources industry.
National FFA Week is sponsored by Tractor Supply Company as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
