Main Street Dance Company Dancers Earn Top Honors

MainStreet Dance Company (MSDC) receive Top Honors at Headliners Dance Competition in Johnstown, PA

MainStreet Dance Company from Andrea’s School of Dance attended the Headliners Dance Competition in Johnstown, PA on February 18th and presented 23 dances, with 21 of them performing at the competitive dance level, the highest level of competition.

Two Tyrone dancers, eighth grader Elayna Hess and senior Hanna Eiaken were among the top award winners.

Tyrone middle school student Elayna Hess was named Teen Miss Headliners and received a $500 Scholarship to attend a dance intensive in New York City for her Solo “Emerald”. The dance was choreographed by Andrea McGraw, studio owner, and artistic director.

“I had the best experience dancing and being with all my dance friends and having fun,” said Hess.

Hanna Eakin, a senior at Tyrone, received a Student Choreographer award for her Solo “Orphic”. This dance incorporated her long extensions to create beautiful lines and strong movements to captivate the audience.

The team of twenty-two dancers comes from the Bellwood, Altoona, Penn Cambria, and Tyrone Area School Districts.

The Junior Small Group Jazz “Ou La La La” and Junior Small Group Lyrical “Welcome to Wonderland” competed at the intermediate level as the youngest and newest members of the MSDC team. Dance levels are based on your competition year and the number of hours taking regular dance classes.

Shawna Lovrich, a junior at Bellwood, received a Special Judges Award for “Quality Queen” in her Solo “Far Cry”. The judge felt she had complete control of her moves and took command of the stage. Jillian Hrzic was the choreographer of this dance and received a Student Choreographer Award.

MSDC earned 15 top-five awards, including:

1st: Teen Contemporary Trio “Kaleidoscope”, Junior Small Group Lyrical “Exist”, and Teen Large Group Modern “Violin Concerto

2nd: Teen Contemporary Trio “Daffodil”, Junior Lyrical Duo “Play the Part”, Teen Large Group Lyrical “Find a Voice”, and Junior Small Group Jazz “Yes I Am”

3rd: Junior Small Group Lyrical “Welcome to Wonderland”, Teen Contemporary Solo “Emerald”, and Teen Small Group Contemporary “The Sky Seen From the Moon”

4th: Teen Contemporary Trio “Letting Go”, Teen Contemporary Solo “Happily Ever After”, and Senior Large Group Jazz “They Come Alive”

5th: Senior Contemporary Solo “Far Cry” and Teen Small Group Modern “Simple Collective ”
