Tyrone is set to take on the 4-4 Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers in a playoff deciding bout.
To give some background, the Golden Eagles have a lot of common opponents with the Mounties. Philipsburg beat Bellwood 31-28, lost to Bellefonte 24-15, beat Central 48-24, and lost to Bald Eagle 21-14.
Although Tyrone lost to Bellwood 26-7, their 21-14 win over Bald Eagle is what is keeping them in the race for the playoffs.
The Mounties are a big physical team that is looking to run the ball down the Golden Eagles’ throats. With athletes like Demarcus Law (277 rushing yards, 3 tds), Caleb Chapman (703 rushing yards, 14 tds), and Jayden Jones (197 rushing yards). The Mounties have the ability to run the ball effectively behind their big offensive line.
The key to the game for Tyrone is to shut down the run and put pressure on the quarterback to force out bad throws.
Philipsburg hasn’t defeated Tyrone since 2004. Where Tyrone lost 7-6, but later on in the year beat them in the district semi-finals 36-0.
The Golden Eagles are looking to continue their winning streak against the Mounties and qualify for the district playoffs.
The Game is at 7 pm. On Friday, October 17, at Grays Veterans Memorial Field.
