Tyrone got off to a great start on the first day of the District 6 Track and Field Championship at Mansion Park, crowning a District 6 champion in the girl’s long jump and a bronze medalist and state qualifier in the boy’s long jump.
Senior Rebecca Lewis became Tyrone’s first 2024 champion, repeating as the D6 champion in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet and 5 inches.
“It’s pretty exciting. I came into it as the fourth-ranked seed. I knew that my jump was a state qualifier as I went but it was even cooler that I held the first-place jump until the end.” said Lewis.
On the boy’s side, fellow senior Brady Ronan captured third in the long jump with a 21 feet 7 inches and qualified for the state championship meet in Shippensburg.
“I was pumped. My main goal was to qualify for states, but placing top 3 made the experience even more surreal,” said Ronan.
Today Tyrone hopes to qualify for states in several more events.
The boys 4×100 (Ronan, Weaver, Hoover, Crowell), 4×400 (Ronan, Irons, Buck, and Romani), and 4×800 (Romani, Buck, Detwiler, and McCloskey) all have a good chance to make it to the state meet.
Also with hopes of reaching the podium are Rocky Romani in the 400, and Brady Ronan in the 200.
On the girl’s side the 4×100 relay (Ramsey, Lewis, Paul, Chichester), and the 4×400 relay (Houck, Wyre, Paul, Chichester) are also looking for a top finish and trip to states.
Rebecca Lewis also has a great chance to qualify for states in two more individual events, the 100 and 200.
