Lewis’ Heroics Lift Golden Eagles Over Forest Hills

Tyrone senior Michael Lewis had two foul shots to top the Rangers of Forest Hills and send Tyrone to the District semifinal game against Rival Central. He needed only one.

The game was back and forth throughout, leading to a very exciting finish. Tied at 57 with seconds to go, Lewis grabbed a rebound, took a power dribble, and went back up strong. Bad news: Lewis missed the layup. Good news: He was fouled with no time remaining.

Lewis was sent to the free throw line for two shots.

“I’ll be honest, I think I need to change my underwear,” said Lewis after the game. “That was definitely nerve wracking.”

Lewis definitely isn’t known for his shooting ability, but he stepped up and sealed the game for the Golden Eagles.

While Lewis played a big part in the Golden Eagles win, the team as a whole played well together.

Tyrone’s backcourt came in to the season as a big part of Tyrone’s scoring, and they delivered Tuesday night.

“Everyone really stepped up, you know, the pressure and noise didn’t faze any of us,” said junior Jacob Meredith.

Meredith and fellow junior Dylan Thomas scored 15 each. Thomas got all his points from downtown, spraying five triples. Junior Parker Mitchell also scored 13 points for the Golden Eagles.

Tyrone played a great game, but Forest Hills also played an impressive game. Senior Jared Wehner scored a game-high 21, including three triples.

Wehner showed his leadership and experience throughout the game. Every time Tyrone scored or made an impressive play, Wehner would reply with a great play himself.

Tyrone moves on to play Central Thursday at 6 pm in what looks to be another great game.
