Lady Eagles Soccer Open Playoffs Wednesday at Mansion Park
The Lady Eagles girls varsity soccer team will enter the playoffs for the third straight year against Forest Hills on Wednesday, October 26 at Mansion Park in Altoona at 8 pm.
“I’m super excited and I hope we make it to the championship this year. Our team has come a long way as a younger team and I believe we can make it to the championship,” said senior Avalyn Moore.
Tyrone opens the playoffs as the four seed with a 12-6 record. Forest Hills is the five seed and has an 11-7 record.
This year is different with Tyrone moving from AAA to AA. As a result, Tyrone will face new and more opponents this year.
Forest Hills plays solid defense and midfield. Their keeper has three shutouts on the season, but sometimes their offense struggles. Their leading goal scorer is freshman Samantha Papcunik, averaging 1.1 goals per game.
Tyrone will counter with a solid offense, featuring senior Chloe LaRosa, who is averaging 2.2 goals per game, and 37 on the season.
Common opponents between Tyrone and Forrest Hills are Cambria Heights, who Forest Hills lost to 3-0 but Tyrone defeated 3-2, Bishop Guilfoyle, who defeated Forest Hills twice (4-1, and 3-2), but Tyrone beat 6-4, and Conemaugh Township, which both Tyrone (5-3) and Forest Hills (3-1) defeated earlier this season.
The AA field is much larger than AAA and very tight. Any one of several teams has a chance to take home the D6 Championship trophy.
Central is undefeated and the number one seed, but their strength of schedule is lower than Tyrone so there is no clear favorite for the D6 AA title.
The winner of Tyrone and Forest Hills will play the winner of Central and Cambria Heights in the semi-final round.
Tickets must be purchased online. No tickets will be sold at the field.
