The difference between a championship season and scrambling to qualify for the playoffs has been a goal here or there for the Lady Golden Eagles Soccer Team.
Heading into their contest with Huntingdon last Wednesday the Lady Eagles had lost two games by two goals or less and tied one after scrambling to score in the second half.
Unfortunately, this game would be more of the same as the Lady Eagles lost a close 3-2 match at home against Huntingdon on Wednesday, September 11.
The game started fast with Tyrone freshman striker Kadence Berry scoring her first varsity goal 5 minutes into the first half to give the Lady Eagles the 1-0 lead.
“It was pretty cool to score that early in the game to get the team’s energy up,” Berry said.
However, Huntingdon responded quickly with their own goal on a shot from inside the 18.
Tyrone rebounded to take the lead back when senior Briley Campbell took advantage of the Huntingdon defense and scored right outside the six, making it 2-1 Tyrone.
“Huntingdon held a very high back line, and my teammate Liv Newlin saw that. She sent me a perfect ball through them and I was able to run on it, beat the keeper, and send it in,” Bellwood senior Briley Campbell said.
Huntingdon tied the game at 2-2 by halftime.
The second half was much slower than the first with most of the action happening in the midfield and few quality chances on goal for either team.
Towards the end of the game, Huntington was able to score. Tyrone ran out of time to score leaving the final score of the game 3-2.
The Lady Eagles fough tto the last second but in the end, it just wasn’t enough. This now makes the Lady Eagles record 0-4-1.
