The Lady Eagles dropped a must-win game against Bald Eagle 3-2 in their season finale, eliminating Tyrone from playoff contention.
Bald Eagle scored one run in each of the first three innings, making the score 3-0 in favor of BEA.
The top of the fourth changed the momentum of the game. Starting with a walk from junior Amariah Sprankle, freshman Sage Harris hit a home run, scoring both her and Sprankle, and putting the Lady Eagles within one, 3-2.
The Lady Eagles fought hard, but just couldn’t put another run across the plate.
Junior Amariah Sprankle was pleased with how the team played, but wished they could’ve came out with the win.
“I think that we played for the most part really well, but the errors really killed us at the end of the day, everyone did their part, but not all games came out in our favor,” said Sprankle.
The Lady Eagles started the season with a 0-5 record, but turned things around with a ten-game win streak, hoping to advance into the playoffs.
The Lady Eagles made a lot of progress throughout the season, and finished tenth in their district.
Assistant Coach Joe Laukitis was proud of how the team bounced back from a rocky start, and performed well throughout the second two-thirds of the season.
“The effort and energy we played with throughout the season, regardless of the circumstances, is something to build off of for next year,” Laukitis said.
The offence was there for Tyrone, who outscored their opponents 105-57 throughout the season. However, a lack of consistent pitching early in the season and defensive errors throughout the season led to most of Tyrone’s losses.
With only two seniors on the team this year, the Lady Eagles should be in a position to return to the playoffs in 2026.
