The Tyrone Lady Eagles lost 9-5 to the Lady Red Raiders on March 25, making their record 0-3.
The Lady Eagles started strong, scoring 2-0 by the end of the second inning. The inning started with junior Amariah Sprankle being walked, who then stole second on a passed ball.
Sophomore Lucy Fogleman advanced her to third with a single to left field. Junior Ally McNelis had an RBI to make the score 1-0. Followed by Freshman Sage Harris with a hard hit, which led to a score by Lucy Fogleman.
The top of the third started with a single from senior Layna Dibert. Sprankle then hits a single as well, advancing Dibert. A hit from Harris scored two runs from the loaded bases.
The Lady Eagles led against the Raiders until the bottom of the third inning. The Red Raiders went on a big run, scoring six runs and making the score 4-6.
Tyrone scored one more run, which would be the final run for them of the game, making the score 5-6, until the bottom of the fifth inning.
Head Coach Hilary Soellner thinks that the Lady Eagles put up a good fight.
“Overall, we battled hard against Bellefonte. We had our most sold defensive game yet and racked up 11 hits. We came out hard and took an early lead, but we lost momentum when they took the lead, and we never fully regained our fight. This is something we’re continuing to work on, said Soellener.
Senior Layna Dibert wants to see the team wanting to attack and make plays as well as hit the ball.
“I see more of an improvement in both the offensive and defensive side of the game compared to the first games, but I still think we need to be more aggressive when making plays in the field as well as offensively,” said Dibert.
