The first time that the Lady Eagles played Bellwood they lost by 40. This time the Lady Eagles battled until the end, and while the outcome wasn’t what Tyrone Head Coach Mike Whitling had hoped for, the girls proved to Tyrone’s first-year head coach that they are growing as a team.
“I thought we played our best game of the year so far,” said Tyrone head coach Mike Whitling, “We moved the ball very well and had a great effort on the defensive end. To go on the road and play with that intensity and effort in a hostile environment was impressive,” said Whiting.
Tyrone held a narrow lead for most of the game. Unfortunately, in the final few minutes, Bellwood was able to capitalize on a couple of Tyrone misses with clutch rebounds and scores that turned the tide against the Lady Eagles.
Senior Bree Paul dropped six three-point shots to finish with a total of 18 points. Sophomore Laney Woomer wasn’t far behind with 14 points. Sophomore Amariah Sprankle had 11 points.
“I am really proud of the way we all came together and played as a team. It was a tough loss but we battled hard and I am proud of how far we have come,” senior Bree Paul said.
The game was tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter. At the end of the second quarter, the Eagles were ahead 29-22. The Lady Eagles took the lead ending the third quarter 47-40, but the Devils hit some shots late in the game that took them to a lead of 55-51 to win the game.
