The Tyrone Lady Eagles took on the Bishop McCort Crushers on the road on January 17th.
The game ended with the Crushers taking the win, 61-47.
The Eagles struggled to keep up with the McCort girls’ fast-paced scoring and offense.
“It was a tough loss, but the girls gave it their all,” freshman Geneieve Naylor said.
Bishop McCort scored the first points of the game off of an out of bounds play. Throughout the first quarter, the lead changed between both teams, each team scoring often. Bishop McCort ran a full court man to man press, which led Tyrone to have many turnovers as they tried to get the ball up the court. The first quarter ended with Bishop McCort in the lead, 13-7.
The Crushers started the second quarter strong with a layup. Junior Alayna Woomer countered this with a layup and found herself at the free-throw line.
Freshman Lola Woomer found success from behind the arc, during the game, and both teams continued to score when they had possession of the ball.
The first half ended with the Crushers still in the lead, but the Lady Eagles looked to recoup in the second half, 33-25.
Coming out after the half, Bishop McCort hit a three-point shot. They continued to score while holding Tyrone at 25 points.
Tyrone junior Claire Lehman scored the Lady Eagle’s first point of the quarter off of a free throw after being fouled while driving to the basket. That sparked the Lady Eagles, who then went on a 7 point scoring run.
However, the Crushers started to score again and extended their lead to 51-34 by the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter Bishop McCort continued to score off of steals and quick turnovers.
Although the Lady Eagles lost this game, it showed them their ability to compete with highly skilled teams. They continued to score and stayed in the game throughout all four quarters.
The Lady Eagles fell to 7-5.
