The Tyrone Girls Soccer team got goals from sophomore Kadence Berry and junior Allie Blaska, and 20 saves from goalkeeper Pyper Spakilin, to get its season back on track with a 2-1 win over Somerset.
The girls earned their first win since a 7-0 shutout over Phillipsburg at the start of the season. This win ended a six-game losing streak.
“We came into the game with a positive attitude and ready to win,” Berry said. “With eight days of practice, working out our flaws, and grinding, we have come to a win. I’m hoping this is the turning point of our season, where we all work together and create success within our team. We are going to keep the confidence high for tomorrow, senior night, and take the win.”
Somerset came into the match as the favorite, boasting a 7-3 record to Tyrone’s 1-6-1 record, but Tyrone has lost some close games and faced some tough opponents, so their record is not representative of their talent.
The teams played a scoreless first half.
The first goal was scored by Blaska, who cut in from the far left sideline and hooked a shot in the net from the edge of the pitch.
Berry’s goal was shot from far back, though she put enough power into it to get it into the net.
Somerset was able to get one goal against Tyrone, but the Lady Eagle defense held strong for the 2-1 victory.
Elite defending from Pyper Sparking, who defended 20 shots from Somerset, was a key to the Lady Eagles’ victory.
