Lady Eagles Fall to Undefeated Golden Tigers
The Lady Eagles did not have an answer for Hollidaysburg seniors Ali Hatajik and Sydney Lear, who combined for 36 points in a tough 60-21 loss for the Lady Eagles at home on Monday, January 16th.
Despite being up by 40, the undefeated Golden Tigers played a full-court press and kept their starters in until midway through the fourth quarter.
Hollidaysburg executed the full-court press well, forcing numerous Tyrone turnovers, and a few hard hits also landed Tyrone freshman Alayna Woomer on the bench after colliding with Hatajik on a screen. Tyrone Head Coach Luke Rhoades was clearly frustrated with the lack of a call on the play.
Tyrone senior Kayelin Gibbons was the high scorer for the Lady Eagles after tallying 13 for the Lady Eagles.
Despite the loss, Rhoades stressed that there is still a lot his squad can learn from the game.
“We can’t get stronger physically between now and the end of the season, that’s all offseason stuff. I think that’s where Hollidaysburg dominates and is where they are, but I think we need to mentally get stronger. We have eight games left, and we want to finish the season strong,” said Rhoades.
The Lady Eagles play next at Penns Valley on Thursday, January 19th.
With the regular season ending soon, they will have to win a majority of their remaining games to boost their confidence going into the playoffs.
