On Monday, October 13th, the Lady Eagles faced the Philipsburg Mounties on their annual Pink Out game. The Eagles intended to have a successful night because the crowd was packed, and to honor many people in the stands.
Tyrone tends to struggle with PO, losing on the road 3-1 and on Monday losing 3-0. The team came out hot in the first set with a lot of energy and excitement, but fell short, with the set ending 25-19.
Tyrone intended to stay rolling, but they really struggled with finding a way to sign out in set two, as well as serve receive really had them struggling. The team is known for having good serve and pass matches, but they really fell short on Monday, ending the match 25-14.
“It was a disappointing loss, especially on our pink out,“ Sidney Goodwin said, “ I do think that this loss will only give us more grit and grind going into playoffs.”
Even with the loss, the Lady Eagles will advance to the district playoffs this Thursday, October 23, facing West Shamokin. The team hadn’t gotten a chance to appear in districts since the 2023 season, when they lost in the second round against Forest Hills.
The team is very excited about this opportunity because it’s been a goal for this group all season. Although their 8-8 record doesn’t reflect it, they are ready to have a lot of grit and push as far as they can.
“I know we’ve talked about it since the summer, we really wanted to show up for each other and work. I think we can be very successful if we all just buy into each other,” said senior Rylan Crowell.
