The Lady Eagles got their first win of the season against Philipsburg on September 14, but couldn’t carry that energy against Hollidaysburg on September 18.
The Tigers took advantage of a slow start by the Lady Eagles and were able to score two goals in the first half.
The first goal was nine minutes into the game by Hollidaysburg’s Stevenson who was unmarked in the six. The assist was by Chloe Stoehr, allowing the Tigers to take a 1-0 lead with a top-corner goal.
Soon after Tiger senior Bella Vent scored, assisted by Stevenson. A high pass floated toward Tyrone’s goal, moving defenders out of position. When the ball finally came down the Tigers attacker was, once again, unmarked about 6 yards from the goal. An easy finish was all it took for the Tigers to have a 2-0 lead going into the second half.
The Lady Eagles had a tough time scoring because of the defensive transitions that Hollidaysburg had.
“Not only did they have numbers when they were attacking, but they were conditioned enough to get girls back for marking which caused issues for us to find an open girl to have a shot,” said Tyrone assistant coach Lindsey Kanush.
Kanuch also believes that if the girls on the Lady Eagles team get more confident to take shots outside the 18 they will have better chances of scoring. She believes that some girls on the team have a heavy leg and are more than capable of making goals from a further distance.
Hollidaysburg’s final goal came from Stevenson 10 minutes into the half. Stevenson’s goal was assisted by Vent which allowed her to take a shot outside on the right.
According to Kanush, the Lady Eagles have all the skills and players to score goals and every player on the team is improving so it won’t be long until the Lady Eagles turn it around.
