Injuries and illness left the Tyrone girls’ soccer team shorthanded on Thursday, and Forest Hills got three goals from senior Samantha Papcunik to lead them to a 3-0 victory over the Lady Eagles.
After starting the season off 1-0-1, the girls have dropped their last two matches and now stand at 1-2-1.
“I think the game went okay for the situation we were in. We were down two of our key players, which really separated the field. It was a hard game defensively, but we held our own. The goals they had were lucky shots. In the future, we just need to work on starting strong and keeping our energy up,” junior defender Sarah Chichester said.
This translated to an ugly first half of the game where they barely managed to possess the ball and only had two shots, the same number of goals Forest Hills had.
Although things got better in the second half, the communication between the players was not good, and that was a key issue that they need to work on to get better for the next game.
“In the first half we kind of just stood around and just kicked the ball as soon as we got it. We didn’t really have much possession at all and only had two shots on goal. In the second half, we had more possession, but we would lose the ball very quickly because everyone would just kick it to places that no one was at. We definitely weren’t communicating well with each other, and we have lots of things we need to work on,” Jaysa Carns said.
