Despite a strong start, the Lady Eagles fell short in a 4-1 loss to Bedford on Tuesday.
The intensity was high as the game began and the Eagles were winning the possession battle early. After a couple of tries to break through the Bedford back line, freshman Olivia Newlin took an outside shot that hit the crossbar, bounced back, and was met by the head of Bellwood junior Briley Campbell, who put the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 Tyrone lead.
“We probably played our best game together as a team,” Newlin said. “We worked very hard and made some very good passes. We had so many attempts on goal, but Bedford wanted it more.”
But Bedford quickly came back to tie the game. Bedford was able to break through the Tyrone defense and score their first goal.
The game remained tied until two minutes left in the first half when Bedford was able to score a second goal securing the lead to finish out the half.
The second half was scoreless for the majority of the period, but despite Tyrone’s intense efforts, Bedford put two more in the back of the net, locking down their win.
“I think we are playing better at this point of the season than we were the last,” senior captain Becca Lewis said. “We just have to get more used to playing with each other since we have a young team, but this was one of our best played games yet. As long as we keep our heads up and fix the little things we should keep improving, even through the losses.”
The Lady Eagles are now 2-2, with wins against Bald Eagle and Central Cambria, and their other loss from Bellefonte. They will travel to Penns Valley on Monday, September 11th, and will make the trip to Huntingdon on Wednesday, September 13.
