The Tyrone Lady Eagles had their work cut out for them on Tuesday night, facing one of the top teams in the area with the top players in the state. While the girls did not come away with a win against Philipsburg, they put up a fight and hope to use the game to improve and bounce back.
“I think the loss to PO helped us both mentally and physically. They’re a tough team and although we took the loss, it motivated us to work harder in the practice gym. The tough games are what makes us better,” senior outside hitter Brianna Harris said.
Philipsburg entered the game with a 4-0 record. Their top player is senior Reese Hazelton, she’s coming in with a hitting percentage of .459%, along with 6.7 kills per set. Hazelton is committed to Indiana which is a school in the Big 10 Conference.
The Lady Eagles’ focus going into the game was to be very disciplined offensively and defensively.
The first set was the closest set all night, starting off very hot and fast. The Lady Eagles had a lead of 2 until they got stuck in a serve-receive run but lost 25-15.
PO took the second set 25-13, and the third 25-16. The Lady Eagles couldn’t slow Hazelton down, Hazelton ended the night with 18 kills.
Tyrone hopes to sweep the winless Chestnut Ridge, on Thursday night in three sets.
The Lady Eagles put up a strong fight defensively, but couldn’t get a lot of balls to be put down, losing to PO in three sets.
