The Lady Eagles travelled to face the Bishop Carroll Huskies and secured their first victory of the season, winning in four sets on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
With a slow start to the season, the Eagles were hoping to turn it around and gain some momentum against the Huskies, and that they did.
The Huskies now have a current record of 1-2, losing to Penn Cambria, the Lady Eagles, and beating Bedford.
The first set wasn’t the best start with the Eagles and Huskies going back and forth between points. The Eagles were struggling to put the ball away and keeping balls in play during serve receive. The Lady Eagles managed a narrow victory, winning 27-25.
The Eagles really pulled themselves together in the second set and created a strong lead ahead of the Lady Huskies.
They stayed disciplined behind the service line as senior right side hitter, Sidney Goodwin, went on a 9 point serving run, and earned 12 points overall. This gave the team some momentum and helped the front row stay dominant at the net.
Senior outside hitter, Rylan Crowell, accounted for 20 of the team’s kills and 14 of their digs. The Eagles didn’t let up and won the set 25-15.
The Lady Eagles took a hit in the third set and struggled to stay up at the net. Their communication both on the bench and on the court wasn’t consistent, which made it hard for the Eagles to finish a play.
After the previous loss in the third set, the Lady Eagles were determined to win the next set.
They fought hard early on in the set, going point for point with the Lady Huskies. They got stuck in a service rut and were down over ten points.
Senior Abby Anthony took the set into her own hands and continued to go on a service run for 11 points, and 17 overall. Back even with the Huskies, the Lady Eagles didn’t give up and won the set 25-22.
“I think this win was a great confidence booster for us, but I think moving forward we need to really focus on serving and staying disciplined if we want to continue to win,” said Anthony.
The Lady Eagles hope to continue their winning streak and will face the Forest Hills Rangers at home on Thursday, September 4th.
