Players and fans could feel the tension in the Tyrone Area Middle School gym when the Tyrone Lady Eagles hosted the visiting Hollidaysburg Lady Tigers. Many of the players on both teams know each other well, having played on club teams together.
The Lady Eagles went into the game with the plan to execute their serving and passing along with their ball placement on offense.
With Hollidaysburg’s dominant blocking hands at the net and scrappy defense, it was a struggle for the Eagles to side out against the potent Hollidaysburg attack.
“I think we played very well, and we should have won against them,” junior Kylee Nelson said.
The Eagles dropped the first set 25-21. Tyrone was close and confident to pull this game off. Their defense and offense were on point throughout this whole match.
The second set finished 25-18, despite the Eagles having trouble siding out and finding chemistry on the court, the front row was dominant at the net with their blocking hands and block coverage.
The third set ended 25-15. Even though Tyrone was playing physically well, the mental toughness and energy weren’t there.
After those 3 long matches, the Lady Tigers were able to take home the win and make The Lady Eagles record 4-3.
Despite the loss, the players were satisfied with the level of effort the team put forth against the Lady Lions.
“Personally, that was our best game so far this year, we all worked together and we all put in a lot of effort during the 3-set game,” Nelson added.
