Lady Eagles Drop Season Opener to Hollidaysburg 3-2
Tyrone has come close to beating the Golden Tigers several times over the past few seasons but come up just short. This game was no different as the Lady Eagles lost a hard, but well fought, season opener 3-2 to district rival Hollidaysburg on August 31.
The Lady Eagles knew they would face a challenge after losing 1-0 to Hollidaysburg in the District Final last year.
The Lady Tigers got on the board early and scored their first goal at the 3:26 mark when Hollidaysburg’s McHugh slipped through the Lady Eagles’ defense for an unassisted goal.
But the Lady Eagles’ defense regrouped and was strong throughout the rest of the half, and managing to hold the Lady Tigers off for 1-0 Hollidaysburg lead at halftime.
In the second half, Hollidaysburg scored their second goal of the night on an unassisted goal by Hollidaysburg forward Abby Bell, making it 2-0 Hollidaysburg.
But the Lady Eagles would respond with two goals of their own. Less than eight minutes after the Hollidaysburg goal, Tyrone junior Lainey Quick took a pass from senior Chloe LaRoas and laid one into the bottom of the net, making the game 2-1.
Just two minutes later LaRosa took the ball up the right side of the field. She got to the corner of the 18 and drilled a shot to the top corner of the net. Quick assisted LaRosa in her goal, tying the game at two
However, with five minutes remaining on the clock, Hollidaysburg’s Chloe Stoehr scored the game-winning goal for the Lady Tigers making the game 3-2.
