Lady Eagles Defend The Nest; Advance to Semifinals
After their near perfect regular season, the Tyrone Lady Eagles brought everything they had in the opening round of the D6 playoffs Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles had a near perfect game as they knocked down 11 threes, forced 18 turnovers and had 4 starters reach double figure points.
Stephanie Ramsey led the offensive attack for the Golden Eagles with 20 points, knocking down 4 threes. Jaida Parker and Shannon Shaw each knocked down 3 threes with Shaw finishing with 13 and Parker with 17. Emma Getz also had a hot night with 15 points and hitting one three herself.
Tyrone came out of the opening tip blazing in almost every category. They began the came on a 11-0 run already putting Penns Valley on the ropes. Penns Valley responded with a 9-0 run of their own, cutting the lead to 11-9 with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter.
Shannon Shaw swung the momentum back Tyrone’s way when she stole the ball from Penns Valley and made a perfect pass to a wide open Jaida Parker who extended Tyrone’s lead to 13-9 after the first quarter.
After the first quarter Tyrone left no doubt who the better team was as they outscored the Rams 22-12 in the second quarter going into the second half holding a 35-21 lead. After the half Tyrone began pouring on the points while holding the Rams to only 9 points. They led 52-30 after the end of the third quarter.
Penns Valley managed to reach double digit points in the first quarter but that was still not enough to comeback against the red hot Eagles. With the win, Tyrone will take on United Tuesday night in Hollidaysburg for with a ticket to the district championship on the line.
