The Tyrone Lady Eagles earned an exciting come-from-behind win over the Central Dragons at home on Tuesday, January 14th. The Lady Eagles trailed for most of the game, but some late fourth-quarter heroics from freshman Lola Woomer and junior Rylan Crowell led to a 37-32 Lady Eagle victory.
Lola Woomer led the Lady Eagles with a game-high 16 points, including three 3-pointers.
“I think we worked as a team, being able to find open people and we were able to get the best shots. Hustle was great coming out of halftime,” Lola Woomer said.
Central played a tight defense allowing for very few shots from the Lady Eagles. The Dragons scored points early in the game off drives to the board and quick kick-out shots on Tyrone’s 2-2-1 defense.
Claire Lehman scored a layup after a steal and a quick run down the court to tie the game 5-5 with 3:15 left in the quarter. With the quarter winding down Alayna Woomer tied the game again with a three-point shot and the first quarter ended with both teams knotted at 8.
Lola Woomer opened the 2nd quarter with a three-point shot but Central answered back with a quick shot of their own from the perimeter. Lots of turnovers by both teams led to fewer shots being taken. With a low-scoring quarter, The Central Dragons end the first half with a 7-point lead on The Lady Eagles, 18-11.
Tyrone sophomore Brielle Parker started the third quarter with a drive to the paint and bucket.
Central played up tight defense which eliminated The Eagles from taking shots around the perimeter. The Dragons then went on an 11-0 run, to put the Lady Dragons up 29-20
Tyrone responded by picking up their pace, trying to get shots up before the quarter was over.
Rylan Crowell drained a three to cut Central’s lead down to 3. Tyrone then took the lead by 3 points to end the third quarter, 28-25. Lola Woomer also scored two late threes for the Lady Eagles.
With time running out and The Dragons being down 2 points, they committed late fouls and Tyrone got into the bonus and was able to extend the lead at the free-throw line and took the win 37-32.
Tyrone takes their record to 8-4 and puts Central down to 2-10.
