The Lady Eagles started strong but dropped their home opener to the Lady Bison of Clearfield on Tuesday, August 26.
The girls came out aggressively in the first set, beating Clearfield 25-18. In this set, senior outside hitter Rylan Crowell hit her 500th kill, an impressive achievement for any hitter.
Tyrone had an effective serve and pass game in the first set, while staying disciplined at the net and controlling their side.
“I think our energy and drive were there for the first set. We were doing a great job of staying loose and putting the ball down,” said senior setter Sidney Goodwin.
Going into the second set, the Lady Eagles became a little complacent. The team’s energy waned, allowing Clearfield to take control of the service line and the second set.
“I think we really just needed to focus on our side of the floor and play our game. We struggled behind the service line, which is something we need to focus on going into our next game,” senior Abby Anthony said.
Sets three and four got chaotic for the Lady Eagles, who were struggling to side out and put a ball away. The Lady Eagles fought their way back to tie the second set, but unfortunately lost focus, losing the third set 25-21 and the final set 25 -19.
Although Tyrone left the court in defeat, they have their heads held high with a positive outlook for the rest of the season. Hoping to turn things around.
After a disappointing end last season, the Lady Eagles are aiming for a positive record this year. With many returning starters, the team feels strong enough to make a run this year.
