Klutch Kosoglow: Lady Eagles Beat Central in OT
At the end of the season sophomore, Mia Kosoglow has had a flair for the dramatic. Just a week after winning the game against LV with a last-second steal and layup, Kosoglow did it again in overtime against the Lady Dragons of Central, winning 42-41 in the District 6 consolation game.
Tyrone led for much of the second half, but Central hit a three off an inbound pass to tie the game at 34-34, and neither teams were able to score as the regulation time expired.
Senior Emily Lehman put the Lady Eagles on top 38-36 late in the overtime period, but the Dragons buried another three and regained the lead.
Central missed the front end of two 1-and-1 attempts before sophomore Mia Kosoglow converted a layup with 35 seconds left to give the Lady Eagles the edge again.
With only 16.1 seconds go Tyrone fouled on a three-point shot, and the shooter went 2-3 on the line to give Central the 41-40 lead with before Mia Kosoglow made the game-winning layup.
“It was great to beat them after they beat us twice earlier in the season,” said sophomore Mia Kosoglow.
Senior Emily Lehman led the team with 11 points. Junior Sydney Shaw followed with 7 and senior Payton Wagner and Mia Kosoglow both added 6.
For much of the game, the Lady Eagles had the lead on Central.
In the fourth quarter, it seemed that Tyrone had the game in the bag as they were leading 31-20 with 6 minutes to go, but the Lady Dragons punched back and took advantage of eight turnovers.
“We had opportunities to put them away, and we didn’t do it. They play really hard and they play really physical. When teams do that, and you don’t put them away– you let them hang around, then anything can happen” said Coach Rhoades.
On Friday night, the Lady Eagles play the Mohawk Area Lady Warriors at Peters Township at 6:30 for the first round of state playoffs.
