Tyrone Area High School seniors in Mr. Cummins McNitt’s economics class opened their student-run businesses in September with a new line of fall apparel.

These businesses are a part of Tyrone’s Junior Achievement program.  JA is a national program that empowers high school students to fill a need in their community while teaching practical skills required to conceptualize and manage their own business ventures.

“JA is a great program that receives a lot of support from our school and community,” said McNitt.

In the class, students create their own companies, collaborate with each other, make real-world business decisions, communicate with customers and suppliers, deal with costs and revenue, and develop entrepreneurial knowledge and skills. Volunteers and mentors from the community also provide guidance and share their experiences with the student-led startups.

Tyrone’s 2021 JA fall collection consists of a black hoodie with a student-designed logo and a grey, quarter zip pullover.

“Our quarter zips are classy and comfortable. They feature an embroidery patch designed entirely by TAHS student KK Brodzina,” said senior Ellie Oakes.

The individual classes sell each of their products separately and include all sizes, from youth small to 3XL.

The hoodies also are made with a thicker concentration of material.

“The hoodies are designed thicker than regular hoodies making it good for winter,” said senior Rylee Walk.
